Advice

 

• Intro
• Has there ever been a piece of advice to which you wish you would’ve listened?
• Looking back there’s usually something we could’ve done better.
• It’s important whose advice we consider is important.
• That’s especially true when thinking about our spiritual lives.

 

• Rehoboam
• 1 Kings 12:1-5 – Rehoboam is approached by the people and asked to lighten their yoke.
• 1 Kings 12:6-7 – The advice of the old men.
• 1 Kings 12:8-11 – The advice of the young men.
• 1 Kings 12:16 – This was the beginning of the divided kingdom. Rehoboam listened to the wrong advice, the wrong counsel.

 

• Jesus

• John 6:1-2 – Great crowds followed Jesus.
• John 6:22; 25-34 – The crowd finds Jesus and seeks another sign from Him.
• John 6:35; 47-51; 53-58 – Jesus is the Bread of Life.
• Jesus gave the Words of Life – He gave counsel that would lead to eternity.

 

• The Jews Response to Jesus
• John 6:41-42

• John 6:67-69

 

• Words of Life
• Peter says to Jesus that he has the Words of Life.
• The question for us today is, “Do we believe Jesus has the Word of Life?”
• Will we be like the Jews & Rehoboam and listen to others counsel?
• Will we listen to the Words of Life? 2 Peter 1:3 – He has given us all we need.
